Today I read 100 Days artist, Steve Ersinghaus’s poem for today, The Poetry Teacher.
This is a picture of sea water frozen on a black sand beach.
The poem described modern poetry very well in so many ways.
One line especially touched me, from the students:
we asked him why chrome and not
steel and he told us that we should never
take things that didn’t belong to us
It’s so true! A poet must have a familiarity of something, someone, or somewhere, born of experience, before he or she can attempt to touch the reader.
